Abstract

The present society is an information superhighway society where the roles of a librarian is not just as a care taker but as a cybrarian, who has to create, collect, organise, present & disseminate information to digital immigrants & digital natives using sophisticated technologies. Modern Librarian is an information manager whose main job is to know, how to know what user wants to know. For him knowledge is the central theme Librarian must be familiar with the structure, organization, creation, management, dissemination, use, and preservation of information resources, in all formats. Librarians have to function more like consulting information engineers than as the traditional, passive custodians of information and dispensers of documents, moving from a collection-centered model to one that is access and service-oriented.
