Abstract

Democracy Stands on equality and loses its charm, if all the people do not participate in the political process. "Women" the better half of society must have a role as policy maker and policy user. 73rd Amendment to the constitution providing one third of the seats to women members in all the PRI is considered a significant step towards political participation and empowerment of women in decision making process. On this backdrop, the present paper wants to analyse "the extent of political participation of the tribal women" "to know how far the women's participation leads to their status development". The major findings are : Tribal women are free enough to cast their votes but choice of casting votes are remain under the choice of male members. Tribal women are reluctant to contest for the office. Very small number of women (those are educated) want to hold office.
