Abstract

Climate change will affect water scarcity and sustainable supply. There will be increase in water shortage due to change in precipitation pattern and intensity. There will be decrease in natural water storage capacity from glacier/ snow-cap melting subsequently it will reduce long term water availability for the population living in snow fed river basins. Hamirpur district forms a part of Changer Belt, which is an acute water scarcity area of Himachal Pradesh and experiences almost severe drought conditions. The paper highlights the role and status of rock cut underground water harvesting storage structures in rural area of District Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh.
