Information Technology is used by airline industry since many years,according to Analyst firm Forrester Research, in early 21st century airline industry struggled a lot to upgrade its antiquated technology systems to be more customers friendly. Role of IT in airline industry is most significant in the introduction of E tickets replacing the paper tickets with magnetic strips. This saved airlines about $ 3 billion per year according to IATA. However, an airline spent just 1.7% of their total revenue on IT as compared to typical expenditure of between 2.5% to 3.5% by other industries according to SITA an airline industry analyst firm.
